Love Your Lenses week is running from 13th – 19th June raising awareness for all things contact lenses and contact lens care.
Contact lenses are a method of vision correction worn by millions worldwide due to their simplicity and convenience. With such a wide variety of lenses available, your optometrist will be able to find you a pair of contact lenses to suit your prescription and lifestyle needs whether you plan on wearing them everyday day or for the odd occasion.
Your contact lenses need caring for properly and it is important that good hygiene practice is followed. Here are a list of our top do’s and don’ts for contact lenses.
DO
- Have regular check-ups with your Optometrist.
- Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before inserting and removing contact lenses.
- Check you contact lens is the right way round and not damaged before applying.
- Apply your lenses before putting on makeup.
- Discard contact lenses and solution past their expiry date.
- Only wear the contact lenses specified by your Optometrist.
- Stick to the recommended wear schedule.
- Replace your contact lens case at least once a month.
- Have an up-to-date pair of spectacles for when you remove your contact lenses.
DON’T
- Use water on your lenses or lens case.
- Sleep in your contact lenses unless advised otherwise by your Optometrist.
- Wear you lenses for swimming, showering or any other water-based activities.
- Wet your lenses with saliva.
- Insert a contact lens that has fallen on the floor or any other surface without cleaning.
- Apply a lens if it is damaged or dusty.
- Continue to wear your contact lenses if your eyes are sore or your vision is impaired.
